HUSQVARNA GETS 2011 HOLESHOT
Big Changes To 250cc Models & TE310 Is New From The Ground Up!
June 25, 2010 - Woodcliff Lake, NJ - FIn advance of its starring role as “Marque Of The Year” at Vintage Motorcycle Days in Mid-Ohio on July 9-11, Husqvarna has unveiled a host of technological advancements for the 250cc 4-stroke motocross, enduro and cross country range. In addition, the TE310 is new from the ground up, making for seven early-release 2011 motorcycles that have been announced… so far!
"Husqvarna has a heritage we are very proud of, having been in been in the motorcycle business since 1903," says Husqvarna Motorcycles North America President Mark Brady. "However we are equally proud of our new products and the strides we are making toward the future." The first step toward the future was during the Dealer Expo in Indianapolis this spring when two new 630 models were introduced, followed most recently by the 2011 WR150 2-stroke.
Now comes the news of major leaps forward with improvements to the chassis and engine for the TCi250, TEi250 and TXCi250 4-stroke competition machines. This quarter-liter contingent is joined by the all-new TE310, which is based on the existing 250 X-Light engine, but punched up to 300cc displacement.
TCi250
The most significant changes are to the engine, now fitted with a batteryless Mikuni electronic fuel injection system featuring a 45mm diameter throttle body. A revised cylinder head, combined with a new cam profile offers an increase in power from down low all the way through top end. The crankcase has been reinforced and further benefits from steel connections where it mounts to the chassis. An Akrapovic exhaust pipe was specially designed by the Slovenia-based manufacturer for Husqvarna, featuring a steel manifold, titanium silencer and steel heat shields. Concerning the chassis, the frame area below the engine cradle and near the footrests has been completely redesigned, forged steel side plates to reduce lateral mass and increase resistance to strain. This effectively creates a single steel skidplate covering the footrest and brake pedal connections. The steering stem area has been improved and reinforced. The mirror-finish aluminium hubs from Grimeca are also new. Last but not least, the IPD (In-Mould Plastic Decoration) bodywork gets new graphics on the tank area (the graphics incorporated in the actual material, not stickers applied after the fact).
TEi250
Antoine Meo has already ridden the 2011 TEi250 to victory in recent World Enduro Championship rounds, but now the bike is ready to meet the public in dealer showrooms and at enduro races around the world. The most important changes for the enduro version concern chassis, since the 2010 version was already equipped with a Mikuni fuel injection system. The chassis has been redesigned and reinforced at the specific request of the CH Racing team, which fields the factory enduro bikes in Europe. A streamlined area below the cradle keeps the frame from hanging up on uneven surfaces. The area around the footrest connections and rear brake master cylinder has been improved to reduce contact with the rider’s heel. A single sidplate now covers the footrest and rear brake connections. Suspension has been optimized, with the Kayaba forks and Sachs shock receiving dedicated settings for enduro racing. Fuel tank capacity has been increased to 8.5 liters/2.2 gallons, and a new fuel pump makes sure 100% of the fuel is available. The airbox has been redesigned to hold the filter element better and improve resistance to water. The mirror-finish aluminium Grimeca hubs are new as well. IPD (In-Mould Plastic Decoration) bodywork gets new graphics on the tank area (the graphics incorporated in the actual material, not stickers applied after the fact), and the design and look of handguards included in the enduro kit are also new. The engine has been redesigned, improving power at low revs thanks to the ability to choose between 2 different CDI maps by means of a handlebar switch. Riders can dial in the map for hard or soft terrain, depending on the style of riding and condition of the track. Lastly layout of radiator hoses is new, and the exhaust system is now fitted with new db killer silencer vastly improved heat protection.
TXCi250
The new TXCi250 receives all the major improvements and refinements as the TEi250, but some subtle differences make this motorcycle ideally suited for U.S. Hare Scrambles, Desert, GNCC and AMA Enduro competition. In fact, this bike is the first choice for factory rider Glenn Kearney. He has successfully campaigned a TXC250 in both the 2010 GNCC XC1 and National Enduro series. Glenn has consistently finished in the top 5 of both series riding the “little” 250 against open class machines without a single technical issue along the way. The TXCi250 is without doubt one of the best performing quarter-liter off-road motorcycles in the world today, combining great power and an amazingly light feel. It receives the same technical improvements as the TEi250 with the exception of slightly more aggressive suspension settings for off-road competition use. It receives all the same chassis and engine improvements along with the optional mapping ability for hard or soft terrain.
TE310
The all-new TE310 starts with the lightest engine in the 250cc 4-stroke category (22 kg), then boosts it to 302.44cc, thanks to an increase in bore and stroke, now 82 X 57.3mm. The power output is simply amazing, with a considerably higher torque curve than the 250cc version. The Mikuni 45mm throttle body is the same as that on the TCi250, but the exhaust system is specially designed for the 310 model. As in the other models, the pipe features better heat shields and dB-killing silencer. The bike is much lighter than the previous version (- 6 kg/13.2lbs) and delivers significantly more power. Otherwise the bike has the same features as the TEi250, with the new reinforced chassis, new Grimeca hubs, Kayaba 48mm forks and Sachs shock absorber with new settings, 8.5 liter fuel tank, new handguards and new bodywork/graphics.
